Beauty Salon avail of new skills
The Retreat Beauty Salon, based in Banbridge, County Down, is one of the longest established salons in the town. The proprietor of the Retreat Beauty Salon, Mrs Elaine McAulty, currently employs five full time Beauty Therapists who offer the full range of beauty treatments.
Although the Small Firms Growth Plan does not offer any courses specific to beauty treatments there were, however, a number of courses, which were of interest!

The salon was primarily interested in the Business and Management courses, which were applicable to the day-to-day running of the salon such as Health & Safety. One of the therapists, Barbara, enrolled on the ‘Health & Safety’ at work course and has successfully completed all modules. ‘The ‘bite size’ learning was great’ said Barbara, ‘as the short course did not hinder my work for my NVQ in Beauty Therapy.’

Barbara essentially started the ball rolling with her Health & Safety course, Elaine who was interested in the IT courses quickly followed her. Elaine felt that she needed to review her current learning in IT before progressing to CLAIT stage. She discussed the courses available through the Small Firms Growth Plan and decided to enrol on the IT1 Electronic Communication course.

The People 1st’s Scardy Cats II class was commencing and it was decided to offer Elaine a ‘blended learning experience’ of People 1st and the Small Firms Growth Plan. Elaine now attends the Scardy Cats II class, which complements her learning on the IT1 Electronic Communication course.

Through People 1st both Barbara and Elaine, have been available to avail of the promotion and design their mode of learning to suit them.
